Plans and billing

Free, pay-as-you-go and Enterprise; what each includes, the spending cap, and paying by card or through AWS Marketplace.

Every organization starts on Free. Add a payment method when you need more; you pay for what you use, up to a cap you set.

Pay by Card, or your AWS bill through AWS Marketplace A contract, or a private offer on AWS Marketplace

A domain counts once however many of its hosts you add: example.com, api.example.com and app.example.com are one domain and three targets. An IP address counts as a domain of its own.

The pricing page has an estimator and every feature by plan.

Spending cap

Pay-as-you-go stops short of a monthly cap you set, $500 by default. Owners change it under Organization → Billing. When a month's charges reach it, anything that would cost more (another extra target, another Scan now) is refused until the next month or a higher cap. Owners are told in the app and by email when the month reaches 80% of the cap and again at 100%; confirmed billing contacts are emailed at 100%.

Pay by card

Owners add a card from Organization → Billing. The billing page shows this month's usage and cost, opens the card portal to change the card or see invoices, and is where you cancel. It also charts the last 12 months by charge (domains, extra targets, Scan now runs, yearly), and says what changed in the last month whose invoices are all in from the one before. AWS Marketplace months are your reported usage at pay-as-you-go's prices at the time; your AWS bill has what was charged.

Pay yearly

On a card plan you can pay for your domains a year at a time: $580 a domain for the year instead of $58 a month, so 2 months free. Under Organization → Billing, choose how many paid domains to commit to (beyond the free one); the year is charged to the card at once, and those domains leave the monthly bill, with the current month's charge for them prorated. Domains beyond the commitment, extra targets and Scan now runs stay monthly, and the spending cap covers only those.

You can raise the commitment any time: the domains added are charged at once for the rest of the year. It can't be lowered during the year. It renews each year with an email 30 days before; to pay for fewer, cancel its renewal under Invoices and card and commit again once the year ends. The billing page shows when it renews.

Pay through AWS Marketplace

Find Akadenia Security on AWS Marketplace, subscribe to pay-as-you-go, and you're sent back here to choose the organization it's for. Charges then appear on your AWS bill. Enterprise private offers work the same way.

Billing contacts

Owners can add up to 3 addresses under Organization → Billing → Billing contacts, for whoever handles the bills; they needn't be members. Each address is sent a link first and stays pending, getting nothing, until its recipient follows it (within 7 days; after that, remove the address and add it again). Like the rest of the billing page, only owners see or change the list.

Confirmed contacts get our billing emails, as well as the owners: the trial ending, a plan starting or ending, a card payment failing, and the spending cap being reached. When a card payment fails, a contact who isn't an owner is asked to let an owner know (only owners can update the card) and given Stripe's link to pay the invoice. On a card plan, Stripe's invoices and receipts go to the first confirmed contact, or to the owner when there's none; changing the email in the card portal makes that address the first contact. Paying through AWS Marketplace, AWS's invoices go to the AWS account, and our emails still go to your billing contacts.

Confirmed contacts also get a short reminder when one of the organization's domain registrations is close to running out (medium and up: two weeks before it expires), or is on hold or about to be released, with a link to renew at the registrar. Each reminder has its own unsubscribe link, which stops only the reminders; the billing emails keep coming.

Changing or ending a plan

Owners can cancel a card plan from the billing page, after confirming, and may say why (optional; Akadenia staff see the reason). Before you confirm, on pay-as-you-go, Lower the cost instead shows what removing each domain (with its targets) or an extra target would save a month, your spending cap against where this month is heading, and how many Scan now runs last month went past those your domains include today, at today's prices. Then What changes on Free lists what your plan includes that Free doesn't, and exactly which domains and targets it would stop scanning; AWS Marketplace subscriptions show the same before the link to cancel in AWS. A cancelled card plan runs to the end of the billing month, then the organization is back on Free. Until then, Keep pay-as-you-go on the same page undoes the cancellation, with nothing to set up again. A Marketplace subscription is cancelled in AWS. Nothing is deleted: targets and findings stay, and scans beyond Free's limits stop.
